L&U Members Update
L&U Games Teams qualify for Gleneagles after some keen riding at the Home Internationals Competition.
Again we did well at the Area Dressage gaining a 7th with tessa Eliot
Lockhart whilst Victoria Barrett was best placed junior in the dressage section.
Kirsten Criggie competed in the Eventing Novice Challange and whilst not place against stiff
opposition gave
a good show for L&U. Mark and Nichola travelled South to take part in the Polo Chap Qualifies
where a record 105 teams took part, and
were paired up with two guys from Cornwall and Devon and Somerset that only stated playing in
April this year. Whilst they played some great team polo at Southam, Cirencester and Tidworth , covered 1500 miles they
were unable to qualify; on this occasion, for the finals in Cowdray Park.
Perhaps next year we may be able to have a team from L&U, that like the
southern teams practice together regularly. Don't forget you can play polo from 6 to 21
Well done to every one. Keep up the team spirit

Dengie Area Final Rowallan 8th March!!
L&U this year had six forward to the Area final, Eilidh and Heather McFarlane
Laura and Fiona Tague Laura Mackie and Nichola Wagstaffe. Laura and Nichola
unfortuanely could not make the final On the day disaster for Fiona Tague
when her pony was found to be lame when off the box. Sister Laura had a great
roud but rolled a pole putting her out of the competition. The Mcfarlan camp could
do nothing wrong with both girls going clear in the first round. The second round
produced only four clear rounds with Eilidh taking first spot half way
through the jump off with a clear followed by sister Heather who hung on
to second spot with four ponies left to go. James Spy haveing been knocked
out with his Grey Pony produced a fast and clear round on his Coloured pony
to take second spot with a young rider from Edinburgh clinching the
fourth qualifying spot with yet another clear round. Heather was plaeased
since like Nichola a senior member as it is her last chance in the
competition and is looking forward to the final in the South. Congratulations from us all in club more especially in the
final in Morton Morrell on the 29th March
Entered 10th March 2003

British Racing School in Newmarket are attracting more

qualifications and great futures in the Racing industry. Qualifications are gained - !! free of charge !! -
after a gruelling interview and an comprehensive 9 week residential course & automatic job placement.
Non riders are
accepted, but be sure, once you leave, you will be able to ride any-thing, and earn a most
respectable
wage. Working in the only regulated equestrian industry, where qualifications and skill are rewarded both in - Cash and Quality Conditions -
Two of our members Went to Racing School do you know who they are?? Oh &
They are Starting Equine Degrees!!! One is Mark one of our Polo Players That's him below showing the standard achieved by some in L&U PonyClub but who is the other?

NVQ Training
& all free!!
3 weeks in, & Time for speed!!
British Racing School Newmarket!! I went met friends from Aberdeen to Cornwall and 'No' you cannot do it in Scotland no matter what they tell you
More later of my trips and travells Mark
Hey I've Finished my NVQ-2 and First aid at 16 After
only 8 months ! 'Two Years in Scotland' ! I have a career a good wage with lots to aim for!! Thanks to those that
kept on my case BRS, Trainers, Assessors, Head-Lads friends and family. You don't realise how important qualifications are until you have some. As Dad says ! Another Key in my Pocket for a Future Door !
|
|
Hey does
this appeal??
Riding is such a great sport
I just wanted to get a qualification
in Horses that means something!!
When we leave school we are told get a qualification,
so that we can earn a great living. I have seen so many in the equestrian industry get
BHS Stages and earn buttons at a riding centre as there is no real wage structure.
I have worked in a polo centre for a few years; not for the lazy, but again there is plenty
of riding if you can manage five at a time at all the pony paces. Racing now what a challenge.
I'm at the BRS and enjoying my NVQ2 training. Many people down grade the qualifications
NVQ but in England and at a boarding school like the BRS you have to learn and ride horses
in a totally different style. The learning class rooms are so well equipped and they have
instructors of a very high calibre and with 11 on the course one on one is quite the norm with
radio teaching on the horses and debriefing with video.
NVQ2 (Equal to Stage 2) to NVQ3 to BHS Teaching can't be bad. It's the most thorough teaching I have had since
mum taught me in the beginning!! and the end result is that they are now doing Degrees so that I can achieve my dream and not be in Debt.
I am going to start a page on this site explaining some of the chances that are available in the South if you want to ride, compete and do well.

Polo and Games
As we all know Lanark are a great Games club and have been
for years. Continuing to qualify for Zones and finals each year.
As usuall Brian Ross will once again be giving of his time
and arranging winter training to keep everyone on their toes.
Lanark and Upperward have also made inroads in to the game
of Polo. In 2000 our club came 4th in the Loriner section
at the Cowdray national finals. In 2001 6th in Loriner and
7th in the Renedell section at The Cowdray Championships. To
qualify 'The Lanark' as we are known in the South were first
at Tidworth in Loriner having beaten a well trained team from
Beaufort, and at Cirencester in the Rendell 1 section. We
need to build on that experience so that in 2003 we can
again represent our club in the South. Those intersted in Polo
please contact Webwizard
